Seeking the Favor of Men, or of God? Part 3

Paul asks in Galatians 1:10, "For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God?  If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ."

It is hard (dare I say- impossible) to truly be a bond-servant of God and to live a life trying to please man.

      Lord, help us not to fear people but to have a holy fear of You, to long to please You rather than man, and to obey Your voice. (1 Sam. 15:22)

“On the day I called, You answered me;

 You make me bold with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138:3

That is what we need!
 Lord, make us bold with strength in our souls

 to do what You have called us to do,

say what You have called us to say,

 and be who You have called us to be.

In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.  What can man do to me?” Psalm 56:11

When the enemies in Nehemiah chapter four (those who opposed God's assignment) conspired against the workers and made them afraid, Nehemiah rose up and spoke, 'Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses." (Neh. 4:14)

Let that be our message of life: 'Do not be afraid of them, remember the Lord, great and awesome! and fight! Don't give in,' realizing that as you fight the battle, you are not only fighting for yourself but also on behalf of those that God has placed around you.  If you don't have the courage to fight it for yourself, take up His courage to fight it for them.

      Where have you given into fear and protected yourself right out of being obedient to His call on your life?  Allow Him to be your strong support, your protector, and venture out to see what He can do with your fearless confidence in Him.

"And protected yourself right out of being obedient" is a great sentence. I have done that before! Our high calling isn't one that promises that we will always be comfortable, but one that promises that we will be comforted by the Comfortor. Obedience is good--but before that step--is the satisfaction of the heart. Where is your heart, oh man of faith and woman of God? Does it not cry out to the living God? Press in, press in and find shelter in Him.

Sometimes I don't even have the courage take up His courage or find shelter or press in to get to know God. But if I am just still... then, truly, peace like a river... fills my soul. Even when I am without motivation to do one more dadgum thing--He is still working in me and for me. He is my hero. Oh, how I love Him. "He works in me to will and do His good pleasure." "He restores my soul." I put down my sword by the mouth of the river and I let Him carry me-hold me-until I have been found faithful to enter into His rest" and to "delight myself in Him"- My Great Redeemer! Amy

Amy, thanks for sharing. Very well said. May we continue to press forward, in fearless confidence in Him, beyond what we consider 'comfortable'- just because He asked. May we all take our place, and go 'DO what He has put on our hearts to BE'.
